Interesting project.

I understand the need for a "strength" graphic or element to support the name.

But....do you want a reference ( or hint ) to eye care within the design?

That is a good question. I don't think there needs to be a reference or hint of eyecare in the logo. We are just looking for a semblance of "Stronger Together", something that symbolizes that. But I would stay away from something that looks to health care, it needs to symbolize strength amongst a group that is pulling together as a whole.
