Background Information
Every second the urban population grows by two people. By the time you’ve read this sentence, it will have increased by another 10 people who will need basic services like water and sanitation. WSUP works to improve the lives of some of the world’s poorest people living in towns and cities in Africa and Asia by working with key partners to provide safe, affordable water and sanitation services.

In December 2013, a group of water and sanitation professionals from governments, utilities, companies and NGOs in 6 countries across Africa and Asia got together to discuss the water and sanitation situation in the cities they work in.

Following on from this, each city made a plan of how they would achieve ‘universal service coverage’ in water and sanitation – a plan of how they will improve water and sanitation services to a point where every person in that city has access to safe, affordable and sustainable services.
