The requirements of our logo should meet the feeling of the new chosen name for our shop:
Rebranding "Lederwaren Blondeel" raises an important question; What makes Mieke’s shop (= name of the owner) stand out amongst the competition? In the midst of the city, surrounded by flagships, multi-brand shops and online retailers, what is it that makes customers choose Mieke’s store for their purchases and not her competition? The answer is quite simple. Personal service and Mieke’s personality.
Therefor it’s essential to revolve the core of this rebranding about the elements that make this shop successful; Mieke, a feeling of closeness and familiarity. The one element to add is that touch of cool, a touch of modern luxury, to create a ‘brand’ that people want to be a part of.
A shop that encourages them to be daring without pushing them too far out of their own comfort zone. A place that makes them want to spend their money because they want to be part of the lifestyle it promotes.
This is why ‘Maison M.’ is a great new name. Maison recalls that sense of familiarity for both old and new customers, while the M. references a smart wink to Mieke, who’s name, without a doubt, needs to be integrated in the brand in one way or another because she is and will always be the beating heart of the shop.
By keeping the M. as an initial, we honor Mieke’s role and ‘insiders’ will know who ‘M.’ is, but it’s not too much centered around her persona to scare new potential customers off.
Also, by keeping the name French, the shop becomes linked to a higher segment customer, as the French language is subconsciously still the one associated to the language of aristocracy and that effortless French class and style.
This logo must create a whole new visual identity, from billboards to price tags and as compulsory, a complete website redesign as it has to be a real window over the concept.
