I like the work that has been done so far... I would like to see some designs that have more of a non text icon integrated into the design that I can build a theme around for my site, something more than text.  The most recent design with the book below the name is going in the right direction.  Relative themes may be: academic, technology, historical (ancient or modern), community work.

I really like the interesting ideas so far, but have not found that one perfect concept yet.  I have extended the deadline of this project by one week and have requested the budget be increased to $100

I am really looking for a logo that has the name "goughland.com" as part of a bigger theme icon/ image... something to build an entire site around.  Something related to education, history (ancient or modern), community, technology, even a tropical concept.

Maybe something playing off of the "land" idea...something geographic, buildings, landmarks, flags, castle, glyphs, pyramids (maya), tropical island... it can be whimsical, but should maintain some academic respectability.

I am really open to big ideas, I came to you because I know you are all great designers.

Thank you designers who have submitted designs - a few of you have submitted interesting concepts with a tree of knowledge, a few with books, and a few more historical references (like castles and monuments) - I like the direction these have gone.  I'm still not there... looking for something that has a strong theme icon that I can build the entire site around.  This is the identity for the entire site... something academic and historical would really make this pop... I'd love to integrate technology, but a computer sitting next to the name is not what I have in mind.  Don't be afraid of color and big concepts... some that I have enjoyed were those that I had to find the meaning.  I have extended the deadline, but woudl really like to tie this up this week... throw down some big ideas - let's make ths happen! :-)

Thank you to those that have submitted designs, and have continued through this process.  I have tried to provide feedback to the contenders, and to at least one of your designs.  My decision was made, but the designer withdrew their design… so we continue.

I just realized today that you cannot see each other’s designs, so my apologies for referencing design in previous comments that you could not actually see.

I have narrowed the field considerably.  Designs that have been able to integrate the name, a historical reference of some sort, and technology have really caught my attention.  I have appreciated designs that can be broken into two pieces, a primary logo and a secondary… for example one with the entire name, yet the embellished “G” stands alone.  Several of you have integrated a tree concept that has been interesting.

Designs that are professional and at the same time modern have made it to the top of my list.

Designs that are too simplistic, like the name sitting next to a simple image, don’t give me enough to work with in terms of the rest of the site design.  Also designs that are hard to grasp the meaning of have not made it through… I love symbolism, but it has to be accessible for the general viewer.

I am seeking something iconic, meaningful, and professional… something that will be the inspiration piece for the rest of the site design.

Elements that are meaningful to me include: Historical references/images (monuments, buildings, flags, artifacts, glyphs), geographic symbolism, Latin influenced imagery (maya pyramids, etc), technological references, tropical/ocean…

Even something like a cartoon guy sitting under a palm tree, using a laptop, with a Maya pyramid in the background, if done professionally (not goofy) would work really well.

Thanks to all of you who have submitted designs - I have extended the deadline one final time... I have been out of town most of the summer and I want to give some solid feedback to those that are in the running.  I have appreciated the integration of the historical, tropical, and academic.  I have updated the brief one final time.  Does anyone have a tropical design in them that may integrate a guy with a laptop, under a palm tree, with Maya Pyramids behind?  I have seen some things in that realm that may be a great addition.

I'm have two seperate overall designs cooking for the new website... I'm completing that design deecision based on the outcome of this logo... oh, so close!  I'm looking for one additional design before putting this thing to bed.  I am very interested in seeing a design with a guy sitting with a laptop, under a palm tree, on a beach, maya pyramid behind - integrating the name "goughland.com" - anyone?  Thanks!
