i am a bit late in the day starting on this, but will be trying it out anyway, one question I would like to ask, what is the actual model of the lathe shown in the reference images as my idea is based around these images.

Sir or Mam,
An effective logo should be very simple. The more you put into it, the more visually busy it becomes and perhaps confusing as a result. I ask you to be more open. You are paying a very good amount for a logo and shouldn't pigeon-hole yourself by requesting specific imagery. To change stuff via updates renders some previous designers work and time useless. That does a huge disservice to the design community in general. Be open and let ideas flow in freely. I have always believed in the saying that a designers job isn't to give the client what they expect, but to provide them with something greater than what they expected. Strict guidelines make that an impossibility. That is why so many logos look bad and are outdated in no time. People judge a company they don't know by its logo. Look like an amatuer and they will think you are.
