Backyard Travel Website
We want a redesign for our current website, www.backyardtravel.com. We want you to get creative with our brand and present our company in a unique, creative and compelling way, that communicates our exotic destinations and tours, the local and authentic character of our travel consultants and the trustworthy and professional nature of our company.
Who is this company?
Backyard Travel is an online tour operator specializing in providing tailor-made tours to eight destinations in Asia; Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Japan and China. They were launched in mid February 2012 with headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand, and staffed by locals and expats with many years of experience in the travel industry, and who are committed to sharing their deep knowledge of, and passion for the region.
Local knowledge
Our consultants at Backyard Travel are all locals – they know their destinations inside-out and draw upon invaluable first-hand experience and information when planning your tour. They have insights into local culture and tradition, they know the best places to visit, the most worthwhile experiences to have and, most importantly, they have the knowledge to create exactly the holiday you desire.
All hotels and activities featured in a Backyard Travel tour are regularly inspected by our consultants to ensure the highest quality standards are met and that all information is correct and up to date.

What type of Holiday to Asia?
Our itineraries at Backyard Travel are created according to different inspirations. Some travelers are interested in the History & Culture of a destination, while some like to stay active with Adventure tours. A Cross Border trip explores different countries in a single tour, while Ultimate Luxury tours offer the highest level of exclusivity across our destinations. There are 14 different Holiday Types to choose from, or you can mix and match ideas to create your dream vacation.

Key design points:
1. You must use our existing logo (attached), but you can change the color scheme of the logo to accord with the whichever color scheme you choose for the main designs.
2. Our logo strapline is "Asia is our Backyard" and should be used prominently on the page to reinforce the meaning of our company name.
3. Home page and tours list pages should allow the user to see the choice of tours immediately without scrolling & Introduction copy should be minimal.
4. We and our site visitors are inspired and excited by our photography, this is an element of the site which we would like to maintain and build on, though the section page header sliders are currently too big and do not allow quick access to the section content. This is a design problem which needs a solution. Full page photographic backgrounds may be an answer?
5. Tour page should display other contextual tours, from the same country or style/type
6. We should promote press coverage in various places
7. We should display consultant profiles in various places
8. Map designs for tour page and country page, plus a modal pop out for the home page. These are complex and may have a few small photos and short descriptive text only, though this is limited by your own creativity. We will use graphics and html5/css3 so there are no creative limitations.
9. The 'Inspirations' / 'Be Inspired' page is for people who want travel and holiday ideas, who are looking for inspiration on where to go and what to do. This section needs to reflect the exotic, the unusual, the extraordinary in our destinations and tours, and we leave this to your creative genius to develop. We are also interested in how this inspirations page is related to the blog and social media content we produce daily, is there an integration here? Can we present YouTube videos, our blog posts, Facebook posts etc, on this page? This is another design challenge.
10. We would like to see designs for the tours list page which feature AJAX content filtering (for instance: http://demo.themefluent.com/?acn), we would like to see how to include this type of content filtering on homepage and destination page also.
11. The 'Enquiry' call to action should be on all pages and prominent.
12. The enquiry page can reflect the same fields as the existing website enquiry page
Values to be communicated:
- Exotic: Asia is exotic, and our tours will expose clients to extraordinary sights and unusual cultural encounters.
- Authentic: Our travel consultants all live in the destinations themselves, they are local nationals and have all the insider knowledge to give clients a truly authentic experience of our destinations
- Unique: All of our tours are tailor made, there are no fixed departure dates or join-in groups. All tour itineraries can be uniquely designed for our clients, from departure dates to destinations.
- Trust: Some travelers prefer to book their holidays with local agencies they can meet in person, rather than with online companies like us who live in the destinations and who they only get to meet on Skype video or phone. We want to convey that we are trustworthy. We have attempted this through presenting a 'meet the team' page and a 'press' page and advert, as well as offering a prominent international phone number. How we you build on this and further convey this value?
