Resumen de Diseño de portada de libro

EXISTING BESTSELLER NEEDS REDESIGNED COVER.

BOOK: SHE HAD NO NAME
AUTHOR: ANNIE JAI
WHERE? It's for sale now on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk and is selling well. It's in the top 30 of its category.

NOTE: Make your design as final as you can, because if you are chosen then I will want to run the cover straight away. I am working to limited timing due to Facebook.

DETAILS

My bestselling novel 'She Had No Name' (check it on Amazon please) has a beautiful and very successful cover already! It is selling high volumes and has taken only 9 days to get into the bestsellers in UK and USA.

However, I use Facebook advertising every day, and Facebook will no longer allow me to use the picture of the embryo (baby). This is because many Facebook users say they don't want to see an embryo on their Facebook page.

**How to Change the Cover**

Tips for Designers

YOU MAY USE (but you don't have to!) the deep red colour already present in the original cover; OR YOU MAY COME UP WITH A COMPLETELY NEW DESIGN WITH NEW COLOURS, PHOTOS ETC; CREATIVITY IS WELCOME. However, I'm happy too, if you wish to take the existing cover and simply try and create similar but replacing the problem part of the design (the baby).

DO extend your design to include the back cover and spine but of course for the Kindle version, I need to have a front cover that can stand alone too. So you'll need to give me a) front cover only and b) Front cover, spine and back.

YOU MAY USE (but don't have to) the type of font present -- or something with a similar look -- in the original cover and the size of the fonts/relativity to each other;

YOU MUST KEEP the name of the book in the same positioning as on the original cover. One of the reasons is because in order to advertise on Facebook with a section of the new cover, I need to be able to crop out a clean square free of text which I will then be able to use in the Facebook ads. So the centre of the cover must be free of text.

**YOU MUST ENSURE the book looks like a psychological thriller/suspense novel!**

YOU MAY TRY to (but don't have to!) retain the same sort of background. If you look closely you will see that the background represents a park, tree or wintry scene. However your own design *may* elect to represent trees and parkland/winter more strongly and evocatively.
You can play around with these ideas. For example you might have the trees coming inwards towards the central character in a threatening way, conveying that this is a suspense/thriller novel or you may choose to keep them fine and very subtle as the original designer did.

YOU MAY CONSIDER including a figure of a female, faceless/face hidden, aged in late 20s, slim, long dark hair as the chief protagonist. It must not look in any way a 'romantic' presentation, as the young woman in the novel is very psychologically disturbed. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO FEATURE THIS FEMALE FIGURE IN YOUR DESIGN: I AM OPEN TO NEW IDEAS AROUND THE BOOK'S THEMES BUT YOU NEED TO USE THE KEY ELEMENTS OF THE BACKGROUND AND FONT.

*IF* YOU CHOOSE TO USE THE FEMALE IMAGE:

DO position your woman either walking through a park/wooded area OR seated on a park bench. Your choice.
IF the woman has her baby with her, the baby is in her arms, never a baby carriage or stroller.
ENSURE the finished image looks desolate, isolated, alone, lonely, dejected, sad, tormented, anxious, moody, evocative.... etc. Those are key feelings I wish to convey, play with them!

DO show a stark, unfriendly, hostile, winter scene. Leaves and bare trees are vital.

REMEMBER your woman -- if you use a woman in your designs -- has no visible facial expressions. It is important in suspense novels that the chief protagonist is not too finely defined because then, people can struggle to identify with them. So, her face might be turned away, or her head is looking down to the baby or across into the distance but in any case we cannot see her facial features.

DO replicate the main font (AS GIVEN BY FIRST DESIGNER) for the title and the author name. You may change the font for the strapline/blurb since this was added by me and does not show up well on the cover anyway.

Hello all, I want all designers to know the following, when designing this book cover: The book cover has to be able to be advertised on Facebook. Facebook advertising only allows less than **20% text** in its ads on the cover image. This means that ALL designs, to be considered, must offer a clear portion of the image that would be text-free. I am happy to crop a portion of the winning cover, for the purpose of Facebook advertising, but bear this in mind because many covers being submitted are beautiful and would be wonderful if they did not have to be used on Facebook targeted adverts. When designing your covers, ask yourself: - is this evocative without giving me character silhouettes? Silhouettes/images that are too dark won't be successful on Facebook. If you refer to the original image, it had a baby at the centre and when advertising the book, the only image on the Facebook ad was the BABY, with no text. The consumer then clicked through to the Amazon website where they would see the FULL COVER with text etc. So, avoid images that are silhouettes, too dark, or where the copy overruns the centre of the images too strongly. Best to keep text to the bottom and top for this reason, giving me a clean centre image to crop and use in adverts. I am seeing many beautiful submissions but most couldn't be used on Facebook because they are too dark, silhouetted or have text right in the centre square.
