The human body’s need for fresh, healthy and safe foods is not seasonal, which is why the Grow Safe Minnesota Corporation is developing aquaponics systems ideal for any mid-western community. Grow Safe Minnesota is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping communities understand the importance of growing their own food and to realize the ease in which this can be done. Aquaponics is the next generation of hydroponics. Nutrient-filled water is used to irrigate plants, to increase the rate of plant growth, and to create and raise a very safe protein for consumption. Grow Safe Minnesota identified the need for high-quality, fresh foods and has successfully created an aquaponics farm in New Ulm, Minnesota, to grow a variety of produce and yellow perch, a valued fish. Aquaponics is a self-sustaining system that produces safe and healthy foods 12 months out of the year.
