Hi there,
Is this project for a single design, or all five of the mantras put forward?

Pretty sure MLB would have a problem with copywrite infringement on Use of Cubs logo.

Is this just for one design or all the designs? If more than one please increase the budget accordingly.

Please clarify so I can begin working on some designs for you.

All five designs. I'm new to this site so I'll have to look at the financial arrangement to clarify.

Also, we were thinking of using a logo that looks like the Cubs logo, but not the official logo.

Thank you,
Ron Hartman

Our plan was for all five -- but I'm being told that will cost more money? I thought I could get 20 designs for the $200 investment.

When you create a budget you have to consider the time that it takes to create these designs. They are not just cut and paste designs, but original works from these designers that are solely for you. Unless you just want someone to throw a couple words on a shirt and call it quits then that's what you will get. If you want a true design (even if it is just typography), it takes time for designers to lay everything out properly and even with the guidance of exactly what designs you want.

If you want to pay someone $10 per design then you will not be paying a real designer, because only a fool would do all that work for basically no pay. The amount of effort and cost that you are willing to put into the designs is the quality of designs you will receive. If you want someone to add some text in Paint and submit that then you're probably paying what it's worth. However if you want true designs that people will truly want to buy then I recommend increasing the budget.

I understand that you want to spend as little on the design side to reduce the upfront cost, however these are designs that you are expecting to sell and make money on. So is it better to go cheap on the design creation or to get quality designs that have a greater chance at selling? The ABSOLUTE minimum for a design should be $50 for the most basic design like "2. THAT'S CUB". Then there's "4. Stay Uncomfortable" which out of those five will probably take the most time because of the character development that should really be probably $100 minimum.

I hope that you reconsider the budget to show all of the designers that you are serious about getting the best possible designs that your customers will be excited to buy and wear. If you do decide to increase the budget please let me know and I will gladly submit some designs for you. As a Cubs fan myself I will truly make designs that I would be gladly wear.

Thanks for setting me straight on a few things. I spent 40 years as a newspaper journalist so I've worked with many talented artists, but doing my own T-shirt business is a new venture for me, so I'm learning the ropes as I go along. I think we are close now to signing off on two shirts, so my partner and I will have to decide if we want to pad the budget or stick with two designs. I hope to speak with him later today so we can decide exactly what we want to do. ... So do you like the Cubs to repeat? My partner is a Cubs fan too. I'm a Marlins guy.

It would be great to have a repeat. They've got a strong team as long as they keep their heads straight and done get too full of themselves for having broken the curse.

Once you get everything figured out let me know. I don't know if I would be able to get to designing something today. So if you would consider extending the deadline to accommodate for the change in the brief that would be appreciated and should give enough time for you to receive an adequate amount of designs to choose from.
