Illustration of Samurai-Style Swords for Fantasy Novel
Add your question or comments below
Hi Can you provide/upload some inspiration photos of the sword hilt? Not sure that I understand it correctly... I need to be certain before I will model it in 3d. Thanks!
Thanks, Robert. I uploaded a crude mockup photo to the brief, to suggest general blade shape and styling. I also updated the description to eliminate mention of the wood pieces that sandwich the blade at its base, as these would lie beneath the leather wrappings and remain unseen. The hilt is essentially that of a ninja's katana or samurai's blade. The styling is open to some degree of interpretation, but should be fairly simple, rather than ornate. In hand, the hilt's shape would be somewhat oval, rather than perfectly round. For the leather wrap, I think I want to avoid the "diamond" pattern that is common to these types of weapons in real life, and stick with a simpler, diagonal pattern. The disc crosspiece should be relatively small, slightly oval like the grip, and without any fancy etchings. The weapon's real character will hopefully come out in the blade itself, in its distinctly pearlescent sheen, as opposed to the usual chrome/silver look. Hope this helps. If not, please let me know! Best, ET
Hi there,
just wondering what you had in mind for a background in terms of texture, colour and brightness.
Most Fantasy novels seem to air on the darker side.

Paul
No background, please. Or if there is one, as a separate layer so that I can place these sword illustrations on different backgrounds. The one you chose is very nice. Hopefully you can review my feedback? Yours is easily the most striking design I've seen thus far!
hi,
silence is good! but feedback is better!! we do works for not only pleasure but also for....
Even my submission satisfies nothing.
Thanks.
Hi Roman,
My apologies for the delay. Thank you for the phenomenal submissions! The photorealism is incredible. And I greatly appreciate the various alternatives. Can you tell me if these are 3D models, which can be repositioned and modified as needed?
