I would like a designer to provide a cutting-edge designed book cover for award-winning novel, "Flexible Wings".
Book dimensions:
5.5 x 8.5, spine .75 inches, 290 pages
I currently have a cover I'm happy with but it needs to appeal to a broader audience. Please use the current cover as a foundation. I have also included pics of books that are in my genre that I like.

This is a middle-grade novel (kids ages 9 to 13) about an eleven-year-old girl who deals with the challenges of being a military brat. She is of mixed race (partially Japanese and African American). Summer dreams of belonging...specifically she wants to join the competitive neighborhood swim team (Stingrays). She believes that participating on the team will be her way of making friends, and helping her to one day fulfill a dream of becoming an Olympic swimmer. That dream is challenged when she realizes she's the worst on the team. She also deals with worrying about her mother dying in the Middle East.
With all that being said, I need a cover that will make a middle grade kid want to pick up the book and read it. It should not look to childish but still feel kid friendly. The current font I actually like and I purchased it on dafont.com
The font is very important to making this current cover phenomenal.

-Nature (walkable communities, there are lots of bridges in the community)
-Hummingbirds (This theme is a symbol...they are everywhere in her new community...her mom gives her a hummingbird necklace before she leaves for her deployment...they have flexible wings...they travel long distances...they appear almost fearless to be so small)
-Multi-culturalism/diversity
-Hope
-Hypocrisy

Please note that I want the new design to include the book side panels/side book flaps. Please use temporary image. I have also included images of other book covers I like as well as a sample of the soft cover that will go with the hardcover.

Don't be limited by what I have provided. I love this current design but I'm striving for the best look.
