Hi everyone,
thank you very much for your designs submitted so far. I am impressed with how different they all are but with the common threads as outlined in the brief.
Just a few comments:
- Please lose "book 1" and "book 2" and "Love and Loss in New Zealand" from your designs. I will have the two books listed as independent books, even though it will be clear that they are closely linked. I know that this is how my first book is listed on Amazon at the moment, but will change it for the new book cover. Thank you.
- I will add dark blue and purple to the colour palette as most designs are a bit too orange/too yellow.
- I am happy to purchase stock photos for the final design so please bear this in mind when selecting good photos.
- As you can see in the links to my shutterstock and RF123 lightboxes, I like the idea of a pier or a landing, as long as the visual is open and not a horizontal across (ie. a couple standing in front of a rail would be a visual barrier as opposed to a pier with the focal zoom open).Hope that makes sense.
Thank you and I look forward to receiving your updated designs.

considering the huge ammount of picture that c o u l d be used, finding just the right ones for you is like finding a needle in a haystack. Much better for everybody would be if you just chose the pictures you like and upload them as the basis for the job.............And it`s not only the picture itself but also the environment and time of day: should it be day or night, sunrise or sunset, beach shore or lake, etc. ....I`m sure the few designers who are participating would be thankful for the answers - and after all, helping them means also helping yourself.....think about it.
Hi starlightdesign,
thank you for your suggestions. I appreciate your comments about selection of photos. I didn't want to limit designers because they might have access to photos I don't have. Hence the link to my lightboxes. Turns out somebody suggested a design with a photo I've never come across, and it fits the book really well.
As for more details about time of day, setting etc. I thought the links to the book covers I liked made that clear enough. I'm sorry if the brief is too vague for you.
