Hi Pat Sullivan, In the United States, firefighters setup landing zones near accident scenes when needed. They usually pick as wide and open of a field as possible. Athletic fields are a popular choice e.g. softball fields, football fields, soccer fields, etc. The landing zone corners are usually marked with orange cones to help the flight crew identify the landing zone from the air. At night, the firefighters mark the corners of the landing zone with flares or mechanical lights. I hope this helps. Thanks for considering submitting a design.
