Short description
The acronym P.A.T.H.O.S. stands for “People And Technologies for Human and Organizational Sustainability”. We are a pluralistic research group that draws upon diverse backgrounds, theories and methodologies from the social sciences. Our research is informed by a humanistic understanding of work, organizations and management, that keeps into account the profound transformations induced by technology in contemporary workplaces. Our slogan is “Organizing with passion” because we undertake our research and teaching work in a passionate manner, hoping to infuse the same “engaged” approach in the organized contexts we come into contact with.

Aims and activities
• promote the constitution of an observatory on innovative human resource management practices strictly connected with the international HRM community;
• encourage the dialogue between HRM practitioners and researchers aimed at developing collaborative management research projects jointly run by firms and the University of Milan;
• develop research projects in the context of the agreement signed with AIDP – Associazione Italiana per la Direzione del Personale;
• organize meetings, seminars and conferences to communicate research results and favor the public discussion of effective as well as sustainable approaches to human resource management.

Research topics
Members of the P.A.T.H.O.S. research lab undertake research across the macro (institutional), meso (organizational), and micro (individual) level of organizational life drawing mainly on management research, sociology, organizational behavior and psychology. We regularly hold research seminars, workshops and conferences and have a great track record of collaboration with both public and private institutions. Topics on which we are interested in conducting research may include, but are not limited to the following ones:

• transformations in human resource management practices lead by new technologies, such as impact of blockchain technologies on human resource management processes or digitalization and its impact on the organization of labor;
• human-machine interaction at the workplace. Robots and roboticization of work;
• freedom and control in human resource management, workplace conflict;
• networks of collaboration and innovation in organizations and their outcomes;
• effects of human resource management on the well-being of employees and other stakeholders (e.g. employees’ families, local communities);
• link between human resource management and the social and environmental performance of firms;
• peculiarities of the ‘European model of HRM’ and its differences with other regional models (e.g. the ‘US model’);
• challenges posed by the current demographic trends to the management of an ever more global and diverse workforce;
• new perspectives on organizational change and development. People management in times of change.
