I need a cover in e and print formats for a novel by a woman and a man called Dear You. The novel covers a thirty year period and captures the music and social and tech changes of this time in the UK. It should appeal to men and women, like novels by Nick Hornby. His covers might be good reference, as would the novels by John Green. I also attach a Jojo Moyes cover: I like the idea, colours etc.

The novel is told first from Her point of view, then His. The couple is quite cool, despite the differenes. They are the cool young pair who fall in love when they are too young for love and are separated by family alcoholism when love is too young. They write to each other, and letters are interspersed between the chapters. As they grow up and go different ways, one becomes famous and one goes to war in Afghanistan. They meet a bittersweet ending.

Colours should be both male and female. Nick Hornby's covers are great (UK editions), but just a bit male perhaps in colours. I like all those Penguin designs.
A pair of spray-painted drumsticks is a key item in the story. One image idea is a pair of crossed drumsticks that make an X or a kiss. The image needs to contrast the sweetness of the title Dear You, which comes from the letters. Two silhouettes on two sides of a zig zag line might also work; one female with a ponytail and reading, one dressed for war. A broken heart might work if it is well designed and vectored well, a little squared. A sun and a moon might also work, one to capture each of them, if they are silhouetted and designed a bit like the Nick Hornby covers. A pair of rayban sunglasses could also be the image. Aviators in black, or wayfarers.

The look should be modern literary to midlist. Not too genre.
