Resumen de Diseño de Logo

1) Can you give me a quick summary of the purpose of the group?

• Increase research participation and collaboration across Northern Ontario including rural and remote communities,
• Develop a critical mass of researchers across Northern Ontario focused on emergency research,
• To facilitate and support colleagues (i.e., both physician and interdisciplinary) to produce quality research where little/no infrastructure currently exists.

2) What do you hope to achieve or inspire?

• We would like to help develop meaningful ties across the north in order to collaborate and initiate research ideas,
• Refine research questions, methodologies and work together to produce and publish regular, meaningful research across northern communities.

3) Will this fill a gap and/or translate to frontline medicine?

• There are major gaps and challenges to performing research in the north. A lack of research training and funding are two of the biggest challenges. This research network will not fix the funding problem but will hopefully bring together physicians and other health professionals across the north to collaborate and support each other to achieve better clinical outcomes in the north.

4) How will this group be unique to NOSM and to research for the North?

• NOSM aspires to foster community based research, health care and education. In order to recruit and retain academic / research minded professionals, establishing connections across northern communities will attract those interested in these endeavours.


5) Why would physician-researchers in the north want to contribute? What would they gain?


• We believe that staying current with research and practicing medicine as an academic is an important duty. Excellence in teaching, academics and research go hand in hand with excellence in clinical medicine. Physician-researchers in Northern Ontario can be very isolated, this group will work to build a community of researchers who collaborate and support each other. Physicians in the north have many unique experiences and skillsets that will enable the research produced to change both health care delivery and improve clinical medicine for the people of Northern Ontario.
