We need some character designs to go with each of our 6 learner qualities so that students can identify each star with the quality. These will be displayed around the school (inside and out), and on put on documents to help students remember to use their learner qualities in their work. We already use the attached star as a general image for our learner qualities, but would now like this to be further developed to represent individual qualities. We would like the new stars to be in the same style as the one we already use and be modern, fun and bright. The qualities are: Connect, Persevere, Reflect, Question, Set Goals, Take Risks.
Below is a short explanation of each quality and what it means to us here at Ranzau.
Connect: “Using what I know to help me learn new things”
When we connect with our learning we are using our past experiences, knowledge and understandings to help us make sense and develop new learning.
Persevere: “Don’t give up, keep on trying!”
When we persevere with our learning we realise that learning can be difficult
and that we need to be determined and keep trying to help us develop new learning.
Reflect: “Thinking about what you are learning.”
When we reflect on our learning we think about: how we are doing, what do we need to learn next, how can we improve and what help might we need to help us develop.
Question: “To be inquisitive and ask quality questions to help us find out what we want to know.”
When we question in our learning we are showing an interest in what we are
learning about. We question to find out: what we need to learn next, how we can improve and what information or skills might we need to help us develop.
Set Goals: “What do you want to achieve and how will you know when you have done it?”
When we set goals in our learning we commit to something and use that to motivate ourselves. The goals we set should be S.M.A.R.T (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and have a Time frame).
Take Risks: “To do something even if you are nervous?”
When we take risks in our learning we have a go even if it may mean we are not successful. It is by attempting and learning.
