Resumen de Diseño Con Ilustración

We are researchers who develop materials for sun safety health campaigns. Below is a story that we are going to use in an upcoming campaign. At the moment, it is just text. We are looking to add illustrations to it. The illustrations should highlight scenes from the story. Designers can either create free standing illustrations that we could insert into the story or they could create a multi-panel comic book strip of the story. We are excited about either approach.

We will purchase at least the top 10 designs. We are open to all artistic styles. The images must be original as they will be included in publications. If you have any questions, then please let us know.

Marla’s Story

Not everyone survives melanoma.

Marla was a dance instructor at the community college. When she got home from work everyday, she liked to kick off her shoes and put her feet up to relax.

Marla particularly enjoined sitting outside on one of her bright yellow deck chairs. She loved the warming feeling of the sun on her skin as she read a book or just shut her eyes. Her daughter often joined her after school. They usually sat together for an hour before going inside for dinner.

One evening, Marla’s daughter pointed out that the bottom of Marla’s foot looked… strange. Sure enough, Marla took a closer look for herself and sees a dark, discolored lesion beneath the skin on the ball of her foot. Assuming the discoloration was a blood blister caused by her long days spent in dance shoes, she chose not to think anything of it.

After a couple weeks, Marla’s daughter insisted on a trip to the doctor’s office. “Mom,” she said, “the color is weird, and it looks like it might be getting bigger”.

Marla assured her that she was fine; her feet were often getting banged up, bruised, and stained – it all comes with the territory of being a dancer! However, several months later, she began experiencing pain and discomfort in that foot. The strange mark could no longer be ignored.

When she finally went to the doctor, Marla was diagnosed with late-stage acral lentiginous melanoma, which had spread through the tissues of her skin into her bones. After a year of invasive treatment and multiple surgeries, Marla passed away in 2016.

Most cases of melanoma are caused by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light. That is why it is so important to perform sun safe behaviors. Remember to wear sunscreen, even when it’s cloudy, and reapply every 2 hours (every 40 minutes if you go in the water). Avoid tanning and wear protective clothing. It is also important to diagnose melanoma early. Performing a skin self-exam does not take long and is easy to do. Watch for moles that are changing in size, shape, or color and/or look different from your other moles. If you have an abnormal mole, immediately see a doctor.
