TRiC is a double doughnut shaped protein that acts to transform wiggly snakes into flying cars. The figure it to accompany an introduction or preview for a scientific paper, my preview is entitled "A glimpse into TriC’s magic chamber of secrets" for the prestigious scientific journal Cell. Here are some more details about the fantasy figure needs to be drawn: note in some of the supplied figures TRiC is called group II chaperonin
TriC is an 8-membered double ring looking a bit like two doughnuts stacked on top of each other forming a single ball containing a hollow interior chamber. See attached figures, the individual subunits can be bolders that look a bit like part B, the double doughnut looks a bit like parts C and D. TriC acts a protein folding machine, Unlike Hogwort’s original chamber of secrets that merely acts to confine a dangerous snakelike basilisk, the TRiC chamber does something far more wonderous, it transforms a disordered snake-like chain of amino acids into tubulin, a highly ordered protein that is essential for cellular transport. It is as if slithering snakes are fed into TRiC’s magic chamber and cars come flying out.
The protein tasked with feeding proteins to TRiC is prefoldin, a protein that grips its substrate protein prefoldin looks a bit like a mutant 6 armed octopus and grabs the snakes as an octopus would attacks the snake. In the attached figure the unfolded protein is shown as a grey oval but it should be a wiggly snake..Prefoldin maintains tubulin in an unfolded (wiggly) configuration and then shoots these wiggling peptide chains into the interior of TRiC’s chamber, the door to the chamber is made of disordered snakelike loops protruding from each of the 8 subunits of the doughnut, they become ordered upon ATP hydrolysis and the lid to the chamber snaps shut. once inside the chamber the snakes that have been deposited become magically transformed into flying cars that shoot out the other side of the chamber. one way to show this is to have at least one intermediate between the snake and the car that looks like a snake/car. The car should look like a the flying car from harry potter's chamber of secrets and the snakes should look like basilisks or snakes but they should be clearly distinguishable from the snakelike arms that form the door of the chamber and the 6 membered octopus's tentacles. You might have to open up the chamber from the side so show what is going on inside. It would be good to have the various components labelled Prefoldin, TRiC, disordered tubulin(snake), folded tubulin(flying car) I would prefer a single figure rather than a multipart figure with implied motion than the multipart mostly green figure. It can be drawn as big as you want but on the printed page it will likely just be a single column wide ~3", or possibly a double column width ~6".
