Our company makes clothing that is as stylish as it is functional.
Ideally, the designer will have some understanding of BJJ (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu): it's culture and the apparel (Gis, kimonos) its practitioners wear in training. Our initial product will be a BJJ Gi set which can be worn both inside and outside the gym. Inside the gym, it performs as well or better than a standard Gi. Outside the gym, it looks clean and stylish, nothing like the "pajama look" of a standard GI.

A few points to consider:
- BJJ is quickly growing in universal popularity
- BJJ people can be obsessed, sometimes training more than once a day and spending a large amount of time in their BJJ Gis
- As a result, Gis become a powerful form of self expression. The color, brand, logo, etc become even more important than the kind of jeans one wears on the street.
- There is a range of character in the branding of existing Gi companies: tough and hardcore, clean and stylish, boldly irreverent, etc
- We intend our Gis to be extremely comfortable, stylish but understated, quietly cool (they don't feel the need to shout - they project a quiet confidence).
- The right logo will stress these elements, together with the overall dedication to their versatility. How can all this be wrapped up into an image which says "these pants are equally functional and clean looking riding the subway (or whatever else you need to do on your way home)?"
- The company name is Functional Technique
- The logo imagery should not be limited to a martial arts context. What things are strong, capable and stylish? What attractively conveys the concept of "Functional?"
- The image should be bold, strong, sharp but refined, elegant and clean. It can include irreverence and chaos provided it is contained by the other descriptions.
- The image need not be literal. An abstract, shape based which conveys this feeling might be the best answer.
