Do you own the copyrights to that Poster?
If not, we cant simply copy a design and turn it into a logo (for legal reasons)

Birdcage is right, I think its best and safe to have a unique logo for your business if you don't have the copyright for the poster. Seize the opportunity of this contest to produce a unique quality logo for Gata Restaurant.

We would also risk getting banned from DesignCrowd, as this platform's policy is clearly against copyright infringements.

NOTE to Project holder. You can't use the cat image from the poster (or anything too similar) since it is an existing artwork. Don't encourage designers to copy the image you provided in the brief - they will possibly get banned from the site. Suggest you remove the image from the brief. Thanks
