Resumen de Diseño de portada de libro
Book title : The Gramercy Park Hotel: A New York Icon
By Max Weissberg
We need a cover design for a book project 6"x9", for the History Press. The book is about the legendary Gramercy Park Hotel in NYC that was a rock n' roll hotel (also known for its drug use in the 1970s). For reference, please check out the Rolling Stone article about the hotel.
The design should indicate that the place is an icon - something people are already familiar with (this caters to New Yorkers). It should feel classic and like a work of art. There are some design elements made by the hotel itself over many years. Feel free to use these if you like - but no obligation. Please do not incorporate guitars or music notes. The photos of the interior of the hotel are for reference purposes only (the hotel was renovated in 2006 into a more modern hotel). The history covers both the old and new hotel.
For the back cover, please leave blank spots for 3 photos: 1 vertical and two horizontal. Back cover text should read (quote plus summary):
We arrived in the city, the trouble went down, and the whole thing seemed to take off. The Gramercy was overrun with our thing. It was good fun. A real golden time.
– JOE STRUMMER (THE CLASH)
Since it opened in 1925, the Gramercy Park Hotel has always been one of New York’s premiere cultural hotspots. Early in its history it served as the backdrop to Humphrey Bogart’s first marriage and housed a young John F. Kennedy. Soon Babe Ruth was a regular at the bar, and Joe DiMaggio was feted there. Most famous, perhaps, was the period in the 1970s, when rock 'n’ roll royalty dubbed the hotel “the Glamercy.” David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust launched the hotel’s rock reputation; Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue stayed for a stint; Lou Reed, Madonna, U2 and more came on the way up and on the way down. The hotel’s history also includes the harrowing personal story of the Weissberg family who owned it for many years and resided there. Author Max Weissberg reveals an inside look at the hotel’s storied past as a rock 'n’ roll muse and a New York icon.
