Home Interior Redesign Floorplans (two images required)
Add your question or comments below
This is an exciting project to redesign the house interior of an old lock-keepers cottage out in the countryside next to a canal. If you win and I use your design, I can even send you images of the completed house for your portfolio.
I've supplied a pdf of the current plans and a wish list for changes (plus a blank copy of the space for you to fill-in / play with); ANY queries at all, I'm happy to answer. Write them here or DM me in private.
NB - Hand-drawn scribbles are fine at this stage! I'm looking for ideas
*You could do this one on a tea break and you might win!
Dear Project Owner,
Could you please confirm whether the thick walls have any structural significance? Also, could you provide a north sign/north orientation on the drawings for reference?
Thank you.
Hi Nafizrahat
Thank you for your sensible questions - I have uploaded a revised brief which provides the following:
* Indication of South
* Indication of structural walls
* Measurements of rooms
The walls indicated in red on the brief date back to late 19th Century, they are solid stone and supporting walls. Removing these is going to be extremely problematic, a small area to make a new door or window is fine, but not an entire wall.
Thanks
David
Dear project owner, I see you have marked garage extension into both downstairs area and upstairs area. Is the garage 2 storey? Also will you require detailed AutoCAD drawings or just a illustrator or photoshop mockup would do too?
Hi AVGraphic - thanks for the query.
Yes: a basic sketch is fine, there is no need to use AutoCAD.
I am looking for TWO design drawings please (think of these as a cheap option and an expensive option):
OPTION #1
Utilising the existing footprint of the house (ground floor and first floor). This means taking the shape of the house EXACTLY as it is now and just reconfiguring the interior.
OPTION #2
Allowing for an extension to integrate the garage into your design. This gives you more options to play around with for the internal layout of rooms. For this second option the garage extension can be over two floors.
Within your design, please be aware of the "wish list" that is shown on the pdf. Please also be aware of the available space (I have included some room measurements).
THINGS TO WATCH OUT FOR
* Some submissions have been a slightly incorrect shape
* Some submissions have had stairs that go nowhere (they start on the ground floor but reappear in a completely different part of the house).
* Massive hallways and grand staircases are beautiful, but I don't have the space, so avoid these.
* Studio / Music room MUST be on the ground floor (too difficult to sound insulate on the first floor)
* If you add an ensuite, please ensure the door actually opens into the bedroom.
* Two bedrooms cannot share the same ensuite (no "Jack and Jill" bathrooms please).
* The front door cannot open straight into a bedroom.
* Consider accessibility - I need to keep a back door, and the traffic needs to flow through the house sensibly (I don't want to walk through a bedroom to get to a kitchen for example)
* Part of the house is very old and has thick stone walls - be care to take note of this on the pdf brief.
* "South" is indicated on the pdf brief. (The north-side of the house gets very little sunshine and so is naturally colder.)
Hope this helps!
Hi. Will be good if you upload some pictures indoor and outdoor. Regards
Hi. The floor plans walls are not all parallels ¿are deformed by photo or that is correct shape?. Thanks . Regards
