Company description:
Our project strategy is firmly rooted in African values of community, tradition, and giving back while incorporating science, modern technology, and international partnerships. IMEK consists of three mutually reinforcing components: service delivery, pre-service education, and collaborative research. Cutting across these three components is an innovative/ground-breaking management approach emphasizing cost-consciousness, financial autonomy, and long-term investments in human capital.

IMEK will grow a sustainable supply of health workers from West African countries. Once operating at full capacity, the school will graduate 500 health care workers – including nurses, midwives, and laboratory technicians – each year. The IMEK Training Center supports a revolutionary, internationally accredited curriculum. During their training students will practice in health facilities that meet specified quality of care standards.

IMEK will build and operate 4 community clinics, one diagnostic center, and a level-one hospital in the greater Kaolack area. These health facilities will offer high-quality care that is cost-efficient, sustainable and scalable to 60,000 patients per year. The franchised organization and the quality standards developed in this health system will be regularly assessed, and shared with West African health system stakeholders to support replication and scale-up of the model.

IMEK will promote generation of scientific knowledge in family health. Care delivery personnel and teachers at the IMEK Training Center will be supported by world-class African researchers to study critical family health issues affecting West Africa. The project will seek national and international partnership to advance understanding of epidemiology and mechanisms of diseases, develop preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic tools, and improve health outcome and address other clinical and public health issues.
