DESIGN BRIEF FOR MAGIC CRATE CHARACTERS
We need character design for a new company based in Bangalore called Magic Crate. These characters will play a key role in shaping the brand identity. They will be used across many collaterals like website, packaging, instruction pamphlets, publicity material (both digital & print media) and so on. The characters must be simple (in terms of detailing). Children in the age group of 3-7 must be able to relate themselves easily to these characters. Hence they should appear adorable and companionable.
About the Company
Magic Crate develops and delivers boxes/crates to people’s home every month on a subscription basis. The boxes contain high quality material and instructions for hands on fun activities that children in the age group of 3-7 years can do with their parents. These activities, in the area of science , arts and crafts, and imaginative play will foster children’s curiosity, creativity, thinking ability and interest in reading.
About the Characters
The Magic Crate characters are a duo – they are a pair of magical characters named Jojo & Zizi. They are identical twins. Jojo is a boy while Zizi is a girl. They will act as a kind of alter-ego for the kids who use Magic Crate.
Visual Appearance
They are cute and little (about 2.5 feet tall). They wear matching outfits and look similar in all aspects except hair. They have pointy ears.
Profile & Behaviour
They love exploring and finding out all about the earth they live in. So they are everything a child is - curious, adventurous, exploratory, energetic, optimistic and of course, a little mischievous. They can fly short distances using their tiny retractable wings. They may squabble a bit among themselves but can’t live without each other too.
Zizi is the wise one. She always strives to increase her knowledge further by reading books and creating things. She is artistic and has a photographic memory. She loves being busy doing little fun projects.
Jojo compliments Zizi. He is enthusiastic and skillful at putting things together. Being hyper-energetic he always creates temporary chaos Zizi’s projects due to his over-eagerness. Though this frustrates Zizi, she overlooks it because Jojo is great at foraging things required in projects.

The twin characters of Magic Crate will also be used to illustrate original stories written by Magic Crate team. Each story will be illustrated and created as a monthly book that is included in the Magic Crate box. Hence, the characters should be able to express a wide range of emotions (happy, sad, surprised etc.) and be able to perform all kinds of activities ... it should be easy to illustrate them in different postures ... sitting, running, walking, jumping, flying, climbing, hanging, rolling, sleeping etc.
