Resumen de Diseño Con Ilustración
Who we are: We are a nationally funded bioengineering laboratory at Stanford University conducting research on the tendon healing properties of a gel manufactured from real tendon.
What we need: We require a figure piece that will be included in an academic publication. With that in mind, the figure must be professional, clear, and concise. A reader would need to glance at the figure for only a moment to understand the process of how we manufacture and store tendon gel. Actual pictures of the in-between steps are included and will need to be cropped to improve the professional look of the design.
The Details: The figure should stepwise show the process of how we manufacture and store tendon gel. In brief, we harvest tendon from donor cadavers. Those tendons undergo decellularization, lyophilization (fancy word for freeze-drying), and are milled into a fine powder. The powder is set in acidified water and treated with digestive enzymes. After 24 hrs, the gel is brought to physiologic pH and salinity and placed in vials. The vials are frozen and again lyophilized (this is so they can be stored and transported easily). Finally the samples are reconstituted with DI water.
The Figure: Should be a linear process (horizontal). The following are the actual steps we wish to include (steps need not be numbered necessarily as long as they are in logical order...
1.) A picture of harvested tendon (Step 1.jpg)
2.) Written description: "Decellularization, lyophilization, and milling"
3.) A picture of milled tendon powder (Step 2.jpg)
4.) Written description: "Digestion with pepsin before establishing physiologic pH and salinity".
5.) A picture of gel (Step 3.jpg)
6.) Written description: "Lyophilization of aliquots"
7.) A picture of freeze-dried gel (Step 4.jpg)
8.) Written description: "Reconstitution with DI water"
9.) A picture of reconstituted gel (Step 5.jpg)
