Hello everyone,

Firstly, thanks to everyone who is participating - there are some great designs here and I think I'll have some difficulty choosing one because many of them are very good.

Some of you have asked for more specific information about what I like and don't like, my style of photography and so on. After looking at everything that has been submitted so far, I am more attracted to those that use just a little bit of colour - just enough to draw the eye to the logo and make it stand out - without being saturated with different colours. I like those in which the text is in a clearly-legible font, although I also like several of the designs that use cursive fonts, but be careful that the text remains easily legible.

I need to use the logo on both black and white backgrounds, so it would be helpful to show how the designs work on both backgrounds.

Many designers have used graphic symbols, and I like the symbols to communicate a relaxed and less formal feeling and I find that curves rather than squares and hard corners tend to do that better. Because the word "photography" is in the logo I'm happy for you think of more abstract symbols but again, take care with the "feel" that the logo communicates. However, don't make the logo too intricate or complex, or too ornamental with filigrees and arabesques and so on - I don't like that style very much. And I mentioned not to use camera symbols and the like because they are too clichéd and that's not the impression that I want the logo to give. More adjectives that might help are respectable, honest, open, approachable, flexible, professional, modern, intelligent .

I am Australian, and my photography tends to be commissioned work, or sales from folios. Please don't emphasise my Australian location as a lot of my work goes overseas  so I don't want to limit my image to my location.

My specialties are landscape, urban, and environmental portraiture and while it's ok for the logo to depict that somehow, I also need to use it on business cards and other media that I give to commercial clients - for example, a forthcoming commission is for food photography for a new restaurant and I don't want people to think that I don't take that sort of work. For those of you who have found my website, the images there are personal folio images - I am currently building my "professional" site.

I'm also going to be running a series of photography workshops for students next year and the logo will go on brochures and flyers that will advertise the workshops.

Hopefully that gives you a bit more information. I'm not going to point to one or two specific designs that I like because I like the variety of ideas that have been submitted and I don't want you to think that I have my idea fixed on one particular style - I don't. And because I'm new to Design Crowd, I don't know if you can all see each other's designs or not.

I hope that I have managed to provide feedback to most people who have asked for it - please prompt me if I haven''t done so.

At this time of year I understand that many people are extremely busy - me included - and so I''m being very judicious about requesting different ideas in my feedback and comments. I''ll only do so if I think it will really help me select a designer (for example, seeing if something looks good on both white and black backgrounds).

There is one extra thing that I find I am attracted to after looking at all of the submissions to date, and which will heavily influence my selection (and which I will post in an update to the brief) is some element in the design that gives it a strong "presence" or a strong "branding" quality that will be recognizable and memorable. Designs that are weak in this area, or that are too generic, or that don''t have a strong recognition quality are not quite making the grade for me. Nor are those that are too "busy" or too "wishy-washy" (i.e., rambling) or those whose different elements are not well integrated. Also, be careful of elaborate fonts that are often used by wedding photographers - I''m not a wedding photographer.

I may start to eliminate some designs soon - I have not eliminated anything so far but there are quite a few that don''t meet my requirements (such as those using initials only and not the text that I specified), and so those will be eliminated.

Finally, I will be out of town from this Friday for a little over a week and will only have intermittent access to the internet during that time so please be patient if I''m unable to respond to messages quickly.

Something that you might want to keep in mind is that I''m making a short-list of designers whose work I like and not necessarily specific designs at this stage, so sending multiple versions of the same or similar ideas may not be worthwhile in terms of the time that many of you must be spending on this. (Yes, I''m starting to feel just a bit overwhelmed by the sheer number of submissions!).
