Resumen de Diseño Web
Goal:
-Create photoshop or HTML+CSS mockup of homepage for the Program for Information Science .
- Also create a child page which would be used to frame more detailed information - e.g. a list of publications, blog page, project activities, staff page.
Details:
The homepage is intended to convey:
- The mission of the program
- Link to overviews of research projects, preferably with brief teaser descriptions
- Display information on upcoming events, publications and tweets
- Show a connection to MIT and the MIT libraries
- Encourage viewers to follow/share content via social media
Target audience:
- Research funders interested in an overview of the program, its major research areas, and research outputs (such as program publications and software, awards)
- MIT community (faculty, library staff, and students) interested in current information (blogs/tweets), events, and possible collaboration opportunities
Hosting:
- The site will eventually be hosted on informatics.mit.edu using a CMS (Drupal)
- There will be opportunity for further website implementation work if desired
Existing material:
- A text overview of the research program is included in the appendix attached to this document
- Much of the information on research projects is currently described here: http://drmaltman.wordpress.com/dr-altmans-current-projects-and-research-aka-what-is-micah-doing/ This content will be moved to the program site when completed.
Themes:
- MIT color scheme is here, it is not required, but could be used for inspiration: http://web.mit.edu/graphicidentity/colors/index.html
- MIT libraries home page is here: http://libraries.mit.edu/.
- The program page should borrow some design element from the library page if possible, and include the library and MIT logos somewhere on the page - but not as the most prominent branding element.
- Overall look and feel should be professional and serious, but modern
Comparison sites:
For comparison here are several pages for similar sites that are done fairly well:
http://www.pewresearch.org/
http://www.media.mit.edu/
http://www.iq.harvard.edu/
- The pew and media sites have the cleanest design.
- Both pew and iq are successful in conveying information about upcoming evevnts, publication and tweets
- Media lab shows the right connection to larger organization
- Pew site communicates better the mission of the organization

Thanks to those who have submitted designs so far. I have noticed that none of the designs thus far submitted include all of the elements requested in the design brief (task description). For clarification, I will emphasize these required elements:
- an area to describe the mission of the program
4. Branding/theming
