Who we are: We are a member-owned cooperative, that operates multi-generational exercise classes in the morning. In the evening we rent the space to dance teachers and personal trainers who run their own classes. Most of our morning exercise students have been coming 3 times a week for 10 years, are over 70 years old and are great friends. Don't be fooled, most 20 year olds can NOT keep up with our members!!! They are awesome.
Ideas: We've had several logo ideas posted by our members, please review them and their comments on our facebook page "Works Exercise." Overall, we agree that some elements are nice, but certainly not unique & sophisticated enough for The Works.
Important: See Facebook and website for more about us www.works-exercise.com. The website & signage has all been donated over the years, so they all reflect different fonts and logos- we aim to unify them all with a consistent logo. Our litmus test is: would you wear this design on a Tshirt? So, aesthetically pleasing and unique are a must.
Actualizaciones
Thank you to all those who have submitted a design already. I wanted to alert you that we've posted a new file attachment, a PDF. It is a sketch of a logo design idea from a Board Member. We'd love to see a professional rendering of this idea specifically. We continue to encourage you to check out the comments posted on our facebook page for the logo ideas posted by our members. We will give extra attention to any design that can incorporate some of those ideas and comments. More feedback will be posted today. Thank you again for your entries, keep them coming!

Hello Designers,
Thank you for your submissions. We have a few more notes to share.
1. We are most likely to get a new awning with our new logo. The Awning needs to be a color (that is NOT black, red or dark green), with white lettering. If you send a design with a white background, please show us how this would translate to the awning.
2. Please review our membership's ideas on Facebook in the album called LOGO CONTEST. Even though these are amateurish renderings, we are much more likely to choose a design that incorporates some elements from those we generated. This is a coop and we like to do things cooperatively when possible.
Thank you again, we look forward to seeing more.

There's an idea floating around the coop, that may help (or complicate) the design process specifically- how do we show figures dancing or exercising WITHOUT making them too feminine or too masculine? So here's the idea: use animals (or something besides humans) to illustrate the dancing or exercising. Some members saw a tshirt that showed jungle animals sitting around drinking coffee to represent a coffee shop and love it. So I thought I've through that out there :)

Objetivo del mercado(s)
Primary market: Women and Men, 50+ years, educated, very liberal (in the heart of Berkeley, CA), possibly retired from careers as creatives, intellectuals, therapists, business owners. Seeking community connection and someplace where they will be challenged physically, but not treated as OLD. Current clients consider this place (now over 30 years old) very unique and worth preserving (hence they got together to buy it from the owner 12 years ago, and run it with a volunteer working Board and one paid manager). When we can't pay the bills we hold a fundraiser, when something breaks someone donates it. We pride our selves on welcoming younger exercisers in a truly multi-generational format-where all ages get the workout they crave. We focus entirely on healthy bodies & minds- NOT looking "hot." Current classes: Pilates, Total Body Challenge, Aerobics, Free Weights, Circuit, Yoga + Balance, Worldbeat. Secondary market: Dance teachers who have their own following, looking for a professional studio that will let them set their own fees and collect their own money, with no supervision. These teachers are usually in their late 20's and 30's, and see themselves as ambassadors for their culture. Dance styles: Cuban, Samba, Lindy Hop, Capoeira, Hip Hop, Salsa, Irish Folk (but this list changes).

Requisitos
Debes tener
- It is essential that the logo make very obvious that bodies/ movement/ exercise / dance/ etc are our business. Most people expect a body in motion in the logo. This is not a requirement for us. However, if you do use bodies it needs to attract both men and women, and attract both exercisers and dancers. This is a multi-faceted community effort, we don't want anyone feeling excluded from the image.
Agradable de tener
- Adjectives for design style: Masculine or Feminine Balsy, Mature, Luxury, Obvious, Engaging, Loud, Simple, Modern.
No debería tener
- Colors: We like Blue, Lime Green and White. (Red, Black and Dark Green are out- we are trying to distinguish ourselves from unsavory neighbors who use those colors). Other colors okay.
