Well I look at some of them, and visually fairly conventional - but I thought you adservice was impressive. I want to 1) tell my message above the fold, want a site that is dynamic, but obv no Flash, and there are three things I am trying to underscore, one, we have local businesses in our data base ( the site is in Drupal and the precondition is one is logged in therefore one knows the search will be local (or there is the option to change the suburb) 2) the local businesses send out evouchers in the form of balloons one "pops" to the local inhabitants in the neighbourhood 3) all business are underscored by comments / testimonials from locals, very similar to yelp 4) one can meet offline with local residents who share your common interests

Also ours is not a sophisticated market therefore the easier it is to navigate - hence the island with just clicking on icons to go to entertainment, clinics, Post Office etc seems promising, just looks to cluttered perhaps
