Resumen de Diseño de Póster

Need striking key marketing art for an indie film called MONTAUK HIGHWAY. It's a teen love story against the tensions between the locals and the summer crowd in the Hamptons.

It's about a local boy falling in love with a rich girl from New York City. There's also a sub-plot about the local being welcomed into the elite social class on the other side of town, but ONLY if he covers up a rich family's hit-and-run scandal.

It's co-written and directed by East Hampton locals. Here's my IMDb page: www.imdb.com/name/nm0255484/ and my script portfolio page www.BrooksElms.com

The thing is, if/when this film gets made, a distributor will likely make the poster by slapping on the three stars of the film: the rich girl, the blue collar boy, and the girl's dad (an Alec Baldwin type who drives the sub-plot). But since we don't have actors yet, we've gotta get creative.

We can do it!

I've uploaded a detailed description of what we need, along with comments about other comparable posters. You can even read the script. The first 2 pages will give you the scoop on the sub-plot.

In general, think: iconic, striking and urgent.

Thanks to everybody who's submitted so far. We've got a few good ideas here already, and I really appreciate you all jumping into this contest and being a part of our film.

2 specific updates for you:

#1 - I realize I do have more images from the Hamptons that I probably can get rights to, IF you want to use them. There's nothing off-hand that I think is great for the poster, and there's A LOT of them, but you're welcome to check them out. SOME of those images are featured in the Visual Teaser PDF (but some of those Teaser images I DON'T have rights to.) So if you're looking for a certain type of image in particular, shoot me a message describing what you want and I'll post everything I have that could be relevant to your image request. Again, there was nothing off-hand that seemed right for the poster, (and there's a ton of them) which is why I didn't already post them.

#2 - In regard to how to convey a love story when we don't have any actor images, consider a Google search on stuff like "art lovers kiss" for ideas. Or "Romeo & Juliet kiss." Obviously, you'd have to find or create your own art so we'll have the rights, but the solution to this creative challenge may be some form of illustration. Again, just keep in mind I want something that says "the URGENCY of teen love." And the impact of the design should be striking. The idea behind your key art concept should be clear. The BLUE VALENTINE poster (uploaded in the briefing) is probably the closest to the tone and style that might work for us.  Although that is a "down & dirty" love story, and ours is a "star crossed lovers" tale. Some of the GOSSIP GIRL key art kinda has that "urgent" vibe I'm looking for, as well.

Keep up the good work! It's deeply appreciated!

I'm adding another file: a PDF of the films currently playing in the US, or opening soon, that may appeal to the same audience as MONTAUK HIGHWAY. I'm posting it as a direct reference on our competition and the quality level we're up against.

Great job, everybody! I like the work that's coming in. And I feel REALLY grateful for all your time and energy, even for the people who do the designs that don't match my needs. I've entered LOTS of contests myself as a screenwriter and director so I know what it's like to work my ass off and not get selected. It sucks! And yet it's all apart of the process.

But just know your work IS making an impact on me and is deeply appreciated, whether it advances to the later rounds, or not.

-> A couple new ideas. We've gotten several very strong concepts they say "love story," but we don't have much yet that suggests "class conflict love story." So I'm wondering if a graphic representation of the two classes connecting in love might work? Could be a simple image of his work boot and her fancy high heel... Could be a pile of his clothes next to her dress on the floor... Or maybe even something graphically with a "1%" and a "99%" ... Just brainstorming here....

Lastly, feel free to use "99%" or "1%" in a riff on the tagline. Or you can shorten the existing suggested tagline to: "Two worlds collide in The Hamptons."

Keep up the great work!!   It really means a lot to me.

  • SPECS:
    - The final image will be used digitally on PDFs and may be printed at 8.5 X 11inches. So 300 DPI is preferred. But it would also be very helpful to be able to print at the standard full size 24" x 36 inches. So if possible, a final version in that size as well, maybe at 150 DPI,if 300dpi for 24x36 is too huge of a file.
Agradable de tener
  • - Silhouettes and/or obscured faces may work nicely for the characters.

    - It's possible we could find one simple image of an object that conveys "opulence" to suggest the themes of the story.

    - You can try this tagline: "His World. Her World. Collide in The Hamptons." Which is kinda melodramatic, but MIGHT work if the image was rough and raw to contrast that fluffiness. Or I'm open to a riff on that tagline. Or maybe no tagline at all.

    - If you want to throw in a credit block, here it is:

EVOLUTION FILMS presents a film by BROOKS ELMS
    MONTAUK HIGHWAY

  • Obviously, can't have recognizable actors, or any actor images you don't have the rights to.
