The Friends of Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) is a non-profit organization which is made up of citizens from all over who cherish the refuge and are concerned about its future and the role it plays in preserving vital habitat types. Bon Secour NWR is just one of close to 550 National Wildlife Refuges found throughout the United States and managed under the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The National Wildlife Refuge System manages lands in order to protect habitat for wildlife.
The Bon Secour NWR, located in Gulf Shores, Alabama, contains 7,000 acres of wildlife habitat for migratory birds, nesting sea turtles and the endangered Alabama beach mouse. The refuge was established by Congress in 1980 to preserve the coastal dune ecosystem, to protect threatened and endangered species, to provide compatible recreational opportunities, and to serve as a living laboratory for students and scientists. The Friends of Bon Secour NWR need a logo that is representative of the refuge, preferably of both the habitat and the wildlife that it protects. The most representative habitat type on the refuge is the dune habitat. It provides nesting to sea turtles, a home to the Endangered Alabama beach mouse, and are the first line of defense against hurricanes. One vegetative species that is really characteristic of the dunes are sea oats (Uniola paniculata) if there was a way to work those in to the logo that would be fantastic. We would also like to target the birds that use the refuge in the creation of the logo, as they are often over shadowed by our more charismatic sea turtle. Here is a list of bird species that we believe would represent the refuge and would like at least one of them to be incorporated in to the logo; American Oystercatcher, Snowy Plover, Black Skimmer, Willet, Barn Swallow, Red-winged Blackbird, Caspian Tern, Sandwich Tern, Least Tern, Great Blue Heron, and Osprey.
The logo need to be something that can be replicated on t-shirts and hats as well as the web and stationary. The logo also needs to be one that can have color but also translate well to monotone if needed. The target audience will be the general public who enjoy wildlife and the outdoors and want to protect it. We are hoping the logo will inspire others in to get involved and support the Friends of Bon Secour NWR.

In the attached pdf and word file are logos that we find appealing and will hopefully supply even more insight in to what are are looking for.

The Logo Text can either be Friends of Bon Secour NWR OR Friends of Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge which ever looks best with the logo but it Must have the name
